Congratulations are in for Aubrey Graham aka Drake. His latest album Views just became the highest selling album of 2016! His numbers were off the charts literally selling over 1 million copies in only two weeks. In fact, Views even sold more than Beyonce’s Lemonade. And while his contract with Apple Music probably has something to do with it, Views is an overall beautiful masterpiece.
We all know Drake is good for the slow and mellow loves songs. But the best way to describe this album is that it is sort of a Men’s Lemonade (Beyonce’s new album). Drake definitely has a way of drawing both males and females to his music; he does it in such a settle way that men feel like its their anthem and women, well we just melt.
Drake took a very unique approach with this album having both types of his music style incorporated in his music. First off, he has songs like Hype, Grammys featuring Future & U With Me that show off the rapping Drake. Then he has quite a few songs like One Dance, Controlla & Feel No Way, where we get the singing Drake. All makes for a perfectly good album that you can either ride out hard to or feel the wind in your hair like the tops down. There are some definite club bangers outside of One Dance, which helped Drake earn his first number one on his own. Controlla is a fan favorite that’s both club and bedroom worthy.
Now for the reason we have named this the Male’s version of Beyonce’s Lemonade. Well for starters, Drake is known for being able to capture both male and female audiences alike, and since he’s rapping and singing about women and his experiences with them, he’s giving us a Lemonade vibe. This is NOT to compare but merely to say men are feeling like this is their anthem album the same way Beyonce’s Lemonade took a hold of women a few weeks back. Songs like Feel No Way where Drake expresses that a girl is his life is intentionally trying to hurt and causing him to be less ambitious is one reason. Another reason is DMX inspired track, U With Me?, where Drake describes a girl that he deems not loyal to him but they have a very heavily texting back and forth history. Obviously we all can relate to this type of interaction with the a lover especially in this era of more texting and less actual talking.
Whatever, the case whether you like it when he sings, raps or both, Views may go in the books as an instant classic. Hey, it’s already well on its way to becoming double platinum. We smell Grammys in his future.
