While many Americans are enjoying this fine Monday off, we must remember why this day is so important to reflect and celebrate. Yesterday was civil rights activist and leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday (January 15th). He dedicated his life to the rights and liberty for all people. The road to freedom was not always an easy one. King’s home was bombed, he was arrested over two dozen times, he was stabbed and eventually assassinated.
However, he left a legacy that generations after generations benefit from. Although many take advantage of the freedoms they have today, things were not always so smooth and fair between race relations in America. It was Martin Luther King’s Dream that helped shape the world we live in today. He organized several peaceful protest, marches, sit-ins and many other methods in his quest for equal rights. One way he accomplished this was by urging people to turn the other cheek and use non-violent measures to get his message across.
Happy Birthday Martin Luther King and thank you for everything you have done for the human race!
