What do you get when you mix a Pop Icon and fashion? Well, you get Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma Collection. Since first introducing the line in early February during New York’s Fashion Week, it has gone on to sell out in every color, style and size. Footwear News named Rihanna’s “The Creeper” Shoe of the Year, and is the first time a woman has been awarded this title. Last year, Kanye West’s Yeezy Boost 350 sneaker won after it was sold out everywhere.
In a Instagram post, RiRi expressed her excitement and gratitude saying,
To God be the Glory!!! What a blessing to be honored with this prestigious award, and to be the first woman receiving “SHOE OF THE YEAR” at #FNAA!! Never could I have imagined the amount of support and love we got from around the world for #THECREEPER !!! Thank you to everyone who represented and made the movement!!! One Love.
She is set to attend the honors ceremony in New York on November 29th. Footwear News holds this event every year and it is known in the industry as the “Shoe Oscars”. This is such a great accomplishment for Rihanna who has remained true to herself and very unapologetic about everything she does. The fact that only men have been honored when there are countless women shoe designers out there is troubling. But as usual, Rihanna is breaking down doors and bringing hope to women everywhere.
In a press release Rihanna said, “In my wildest dreams, I never would have imagined an honor like ‘shoe of the year. It means so much to me to make a mark like this in the shoe and sneaker industry and to have so many people share my love for the Creeper.”
Rihanna has always had an eye for fashion and what’s in style. In 2014, she was awarded the Style Icon Award at the CRDA Fashion Awards. Congrats to Rih, she will only continue to go up from here, skies the limit!
